Carmen Burridge
I'm a ceramist with a passion for the wild! With my roots in South Africa, I make useful objects that connect with the outdoors either through the markings on the surface, or through creating pieces which draw their owners outside - into nature. Aiming to make objects which challenge the conventional and mass produced, is at the core of my mission to bring centrepieces which delight and challenge in equal measure.
I studied ceramics at UWIC, graduating in 2000 and started Elements gallery and studio with three fellow graduates in Cardiff, which we ran for three years. Since this time, I have worked as a full-time art and design teacher in two large mixed comprehensive schools, firstly in Gloucester and currently at Lytchett Minster School, a rewarding role in which I can develop and share my skills.
I have a studio at home in Bournemouth and love using hand building techniques to create useful objects with a sculptural bias. I make a wide range of objects from large serving platters and garden lanterns, to mugs and broaches. Having recently joined East Dorset Potters, I look forward to further opportunities to become part of the local ceramics community, develop my practice and exhibit my work.
