Rosemarie James
I grew up in the landlocked Midlands, part of a family interested in the arts. I always drew, loved nature and history, had my nose in a book or a pencil in my hand. I studied at Wolverhampton College of Art, specialising in ceramics and lithography, gained my degree, then came to Dorset for my Art Teachers Diploma.
I fell in love with a local guy and the Jurassic Coast. It's ancient beauty never ceases to amaze me. My forms are inspired by the shapes and textures of waves, cliffs and fossils, my glazes by the light, depth and movement of the sea. I met some wonderful people, not least the adults with learning difficulties for whom I ran a pottery department for many years, and the many other students whom I've both taught and learned from. I've exhibited and sold widely in the UK and Israel, and also in France, have been part of large shows, but now limit myself to more local venues, and to a few galleries. Although I still teach occasionally, I now enjoy the freedom to create work which will, I hope, express my passion for both clay and nature. Website: www.studiopotter.co.uk |
